Dear Mr. Adler,

My name is Sharon Hill and I am a ninth grade teacher at Eagle River High School in Palo Alto.  In the coming school year I will be initiating a new program to introduce alternative fuel electric vehicles to my students.

I will be working with a new curriculum called “Electric Auto Shop”. This class curriculum is a 16 week program and contains lesson plans and instructions for converting a gas vehicle to electric right in the auto shop.  The class work is designed to address the issues of transportation options available to today’s auto consumer market.  The content is matched to 7^th - 12^th grade students and vocational adults who have acquired basic automotive skills.

When the vehicle is completed we intend to show it to the local community and let the students explain the benefits of zero-emission transportation. We will both learn, and teach, how to fully experience and develop a higher level of appreciation for alternative transportation.

In addition to doing the conversion in the shop, I will be teaching my class about the history of transportation, the effects of pollution and using oil products.  I will do this by using written materials, hands-on activities, and innovative technology.

I have written this letter in an effort to raise funds for this unique educational experience. I would appreciate any assistance that you are able to give to me and my students. We have a need for funding for the curriculum and its  components. To identify your sponsorship, we would like to display your organization’s logo on the vehicle.

I truly believe that knowledge is power.  One of the most effective ways to make a profound difference in this world is to learn as much as you can about something you believe in, and then share that knowledge with others.
