Objectives

Students will learn the following in an 8 week period: 

  1. Energy and its relationship to work and motion
  2. Planning for the optimal use of energy resources
  3. Basic tools and safety in the work environment 
  4. Voltage and safety procedures related to electric vehicles    
  5. Controller programming and control board design and operation 
  6. General schematic reading and comprehension of symbols and terms 
  7. Charging techniques for traction batteries and auxiliary power storage systems     

Module I: Introduction to Electric Drive Vehicles

  1. History of EVs 
  2. Definition of electrical and working power (video sample)
  3. Cart components   
  4. The Cart assembly sequence  
  5. Drivetrain integration 
  6. Battery charging and cycles 
  7. Controller use and programming  (video sample)
  8. High voltage safety 

Module II: Systems Overview

  1. Accelerator Linkage System
  2. Battery system
  3. Electronic Control System (video sample)
  4. Braking System 
  5. Charging System 
  6. Motor System

Module III: Assembly Sequence

  1. Install Heatsink & Controller (video sample)
  2. Install Contactor
  3. Install Potbox   
  4. Wiring the Controller 
  5. Mounting the Motor (video sample)
  6. Wiring the Motor (video sample)
  7. Installing Batteries 
  8. Installing Key-on Switch & Test Drive

EAS INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Instructor Training for the Racer8 Assembly Course is available during an intensive 5-day training program at our production facility.  Those completing Instructor Training will receive a Certificate of Completion and full tuition credit towards purchase of the Racer8 curriculum.
